Wow. Just wow. I've been itching for a good Kalinda-centric fic and this really hit the spot. You write her so well! I love the opening, the contrast between Leela and Kalinda, particularly this line:
Kalinda’s skin is stiff and strong, constructed out of iron and steel. Her edges are angular, jagged; her colors are dark and muted. She is born in an office in downtown Chicago late at night and in the dead of winter.
Completely accurate and it reads like poetry. I love the way you examine her relationship with Alicia, how she blows her off before she even knows her and then ends up finding out that they're not entirely unalike. I'm a sucker for her dynamic with Cary as well, so that part was especially lovely to me personally.
The last part is perfect. That it's with Will is unexpected (and yet kind of not) but the whole section is somehow sad, chilling, and beautiful at the same time.
