Title: The Battle's Almost Won 
Summary: After Seattle, the next time Lexie Grey sees Mark Sloan is when she is just two weeks shy of her thirtieth birthday. In the immediate aftermath of George's death, Lexie recieves an offer she can't refuse from Mass Gen and leaves Seattle and Mark behind. This story takes place five years later, when a chance meeting reignites feelings both parties thought had long since been laid to rest.

Author's Notes: 16,408 words. Written for het_bigbang. General series spoilers, but veers off into AU territory after 5x24. No further plot points are taken into account here. SOOOOO. The season finale happened this spring. And even though I haven't watched this show in years it still managed to rip my heart out and shred it to pieces.This is the ending I wish so very much these two characters could have recieved. In fact, this is my offical head!canon because Mark and Lexie of season five deserved so, so much more than the cards they were dealt.
