Title: The Battle's Almost Won
SummaryAfter Seattle, the next time Lexie Grey sees Mark Sloan is when she is just two weeks shy of her thirtieth birthday. In the immediate aftermath of George's death, Lexie recieves an offer she can't refuse from Mass Gen and leaves Seattle and Mark behind. This story takes place five years later, when a chance meeting reignites feelings both parties thought had long since been laid to rest.
Rating: pg-13
Author's Notes: 16,408 words. Written for [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang. General series spoilers, but veers off into AU territory after 5x24. No further plot points are taken into account here. SOOOOO. The season finale happened this spring. And even though I haven't watched this show in years it still managed to rip my heart out and shred it to pieces. This is the ending I wish so very much these two characters could have recieved. In fact, this is my offical head!canon because Mark and Lexie of season five deserved so, so much more than the cards they were dealt. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] leobrat for that early look and [livejournal.com profile] justforyoudear for the beta.

All the gratitude in the world to [livejournal.com profile] duchessofavalon who did me the honor of creating all the beautiful artwork and the amazing mix for this. You can check out her ART AND MIX POST HERE. It includes: one perfect mix, one incredible banner, and fantastic icons. Everything she creates is gorgeous, but her work here really is exceptional. Leave her some love, will you? She created masterpieces. It was so much fun collaborating with you, dear! Thank you so much for doing this for me.

Quite a bit of care went into constructing a timeline for this that coincides with canon, but liberties were still taken where specifics were never mentioned by John Rogers & Company. Anything you don't recognize from canon is a figment of my imagination. All remaining mistakes are mine. These characters, unfortunately, aren't.

Many, many thanks are due to quite a few people. First, to [livejournal.com profile] leobrat for the cheerleading and beta. To [livejournal.com profile] summerstorm for being an awesome editor and nit-picking out of love.  To [livejournal.com profile] earnmysong  and [livejournal.com profile] justforyoudear for those early looks, and just about everybody on my flist who has listened to me whine about this endlessly since January. This would not exist in it's entirety without each of you.

Feeback and con-crit are beautiful, beautiful things and much appreciated.
